How to remove or hide page numbers and footers in a PDF

Maybe you merged two documents and now the numbering restarts, or a footer shows an outdated date. Remove PDF page numbering covers a strip at the top or bottom of each page.

Steps

  1. Add your PDF.
  2. Choose Where are the numbers? (footer or header).
  3. Set the height of the strip (default 14 points) and the cover colour. Use the colour of your page background, usually white.
  4. Optionally limit it to certain pages, then download.

Important: this hides, it does not erase

The original text still exists underneath the strip. Someone could select or extract it. That is fine for tidying numbers, but never use this to hide sensitive information. For that, remove the whole page with Remove pages or recreate the document.

Tips

  • Increase the strip height a little if you still see the tops of the digits.
  • On coloured or textured pages, a plain strip will be visible. Try matching the colour exactly, or accept a subtle band.
  • After covering, add correct numbers with Add page numbers.
  • If the original can be edited, regenerating it without numbers gives a cleaner result than any cover-up.
