How to reduce an image to 100 KB or 200 KB for form uploads

Exam, job and government portals often say “photo must be under 200 KB”. Compress image can aim for a limit for you.

Steps

  1. Add your photo.
  2. Set Output format to JPG (portals nearly always accept JPG).
  3. In Aim for at most this size, type the limit in KB, for example 200.
  4. Press the button and check the size in the result message.

How the target works

The tool tries your quality first. If the file is still too big, it lowers quality step by step and keeps the best version that fits. If even very low quality cannot reach the target, it gives you the smallest version it could make. The target applies to JPG and WebP, not PNG.

If it is still too big

  1. Reduce the dimensions. Set Limit longest side to 1200 or 1000 px. A smaller picture needs far less data.
  2. Use the resize tool (Resize image) when the portal also demands exact pixel sizes.
  3. Convert PNG to JPG first with Convert image: PNG photos are very large.

Tips

  • Start with a size slightly below the limit, such as 190 KB for a 200 KB cap, because some systems count KB differently.
  • Keep the photo’s aspect ratio unless the portal specifies one.
  • Do not edit the same file repeatedly; start from your original.
