How to generate a random password that websites will accept
Some websites accept anything; others demand a letter first, forbid certain symbols or limit length. Password generator lets you match those rules.
Steps
- Set Length (8-128) and How many (up to 50) so you can pick one.
- Select character types.
- Match the site’s rules:
- Cannot start with a number or symbol: tick Start with a letter.
- Rejects some symbols: type them in Never use these characters.
- Needs typing on a phone or reading aloud: tick Avoid look-alike characters.
- Generate and copy.
The generated password always includes your chosen types
If you tick uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols, the result contains at least one of each, then the rest is random. The tool tells you if the length is too short for all selected types.
Typical rules
| Site says | Do this |
|---|---|
| “No special characters” | Untick symbols; raise length to 20 or more |
| “Only ! @ # allowed” | Exclude all other symbols |
| “Max 16 characters” | Set length 16 |
| “PIN, 6 digits” | Numbers only, length 6 (but PINs are weak; use limits wisely) |
Tips
- Save the password in a manager immediately; you will not see it again.
- See what makes a password strong for habits that matter more than symbols.
